Before you read this post, you should know that automating Instagram likes, comments, or follows is against the Instagram terms of service.
If you’re building a valuable account, it’s risky to do anything that’s against TOS. Think twice!
However, I’m a curious marketer and I wanted to try out one of the more popular automated liking services out there, Instagress.
I tried Instagress on two dummy accounts. One had entertainment-related content and the other had business-related content.
How Instagress Works
First, you must specify how Instagress will find the accounts that you’re going to take action on, whether it’s liking one of their photos or following them.
You can specify by: tags, locations, the age of the media, followers of a username, and accounts followed by a username.
You can choose to: comment, like, or follow based on these criteria.
Finally, there are settings to prevent your activity from becoming to aggressive, like a limited number of actions, a timer, and activity speed.
My Results
The automated liking worked particularly well for the entertainment-related content.
- Over the course of 3 days I received 185 new followers.
- 13.2% of the people who I liked ended up following me.
- I saw much more liking activity on previous photos that I had posted on the account.
With regards to the business-related content, the automated liking didn’t work as well, but it worked.
- Over the course of 3 days I received 27 new followers.
- 1.99% of the people who I liked ended up following me.
- I saw some liking activity on previous photos.
If I continued this activity for one year, the entertainment related account would receive ~22,507 new followers and the business one would receive 2,798 new followers.
There are definitely ways to increase these numbers. By improving the specificity of my filters and the relevance of my photos to those users, I could improve follower conversions.
In addition, I could incorporate other actions like commenting or following, which I believe would produce greater engagement.
At the time of writing, Instagress costs about $10 per month. I think the price is justified.
Further areas for study
I will be trying out this tool to get more metrics for my accounts like:
- Percentage of users that follow me after I follow them.
- Percentage of my followers that opt into an email list.
- Stickiness of followers and engagement levels over time.
- How speeding up the speed of various actions impacts results.
Other autoliking services out there
I haven’t used any other autoliking services yet, but in my research on the web, I came across a few that other browsers recommend.
