10 Best Miami Social Groups and Meetup Groups to Make Friends

If you’re new to Miami, recently moved, or you’re just looking to make friends in Miami, listen up!

These are some of the best social groups in Miami to meet cool people, form new connections, and of course have a great time in the city of magic.

It’s always a little bit scary to put yourself out there, but the more that you can take risks, the more you’ll discover that friend group you’ve been searching for.

While there are so many people in this little area, it can also be difficult to form longlasting connections.

With so many tourists, people passing through, and the notorious flaky quality of the Miami social scene, it can sometimes be maddening to plan successful social events.

The idea of meeting up with a bunch of strangers can seem terrifying. However, if you move past these fears, you might just find a whole life on the other side.

1. Brickell Living

I really have enjoyed all of the Brickell Living events that I’ve been able to attend, and have met some cool people in the process.

Many of their events are either free, or paid and come with some kind of a drink offering. It’s an easy way to meet your neighbors in the Brickell area.

I’ve never met an organizer at the events, so you need to be proactive about introducing yourself to people, but everyone I’ve met has been extremely open to new conversations.

There is also a Brickell Living Facebook group that I would recommend joining if you are living in the Brickell area to be aware of news in the area.

2. NYMI – New York – Miami

As a fellow New Yorker, I love this group because I’ve been able to link up with some other people who have relocated to South Florida.

We can talk about how strange it is that people in Miami don’t take the metro, and that there are only one or two really good pizza places by New York standards.

Jokes aside, this is a great group, even if you are not new to Miami and are not a New Yorker. It’s an easy way to meet a bunch of people in a fun welcoming environment.

I’ve also been introduced to many restaurants and rooftop bars that I would have never found myself.

3. New to Miami – Miami Meet & Mingle

This group is killer particularly if you’re interested in things like art, happy hours, meeting other professionals, and forming friendships.

Have a nice evening enjoying wine at a museum, or attend a fun classic Miami happy hour event with great music.

This meetup group is a good fit for both transports who have moved to Miami and locals looking to make more friends.

4. Miami Beach Volleyball

One of the classic activities in Miami is to try out beach volleyball. Even if you’re a novice, this is a great activity to get the blood pumping, get a tan, and meet some other people.

The event is conveniently situated on the Miami beach volleyball courts, making it easy to find, and a few footsteps from cool ocean water, which is always a nice perk.

I would recommend bringing sunscreen and a bottle of water, as it will get hot, and games can last for multiple rounds.

5. Miami Beach Goers

Talk about fun! The organizers of this group have tremendous positive energy and are welcoming of all new members.

Past events have happened at Brickell City Center with drink specials, and in nifty areas of Miami Beach. I’ve had some great nights with this group, and explored areas I would have never gone to.

Can’t recommend it enough!

6. Miami Tech Events

BOOM!

If you’re in the tech industry, Miami has become one hot tamale. You gotta check out some of the epic tech events going on in Miami.

There are a lot to choose from, coworking spaces, accelerators, demo days, and workshops.

Personally, I have found the Miami Tech Happy Hour to be one of the best out there, particularly if you want more of a fun atmosphere.

They will also partner with other brands to sometimes bring training, a free drink, swag, and other goodies.

7. Supermomos

This event, like the one above, is focused on tech. A smaller company, I wanted to include Supermomos on this list because of their growing app community that I am a part of and their dedication to holding events.

A great way to meet fellow young professionals, this event would be part networking and part fun.

Meet your community at a private dinner salon, rooftop happy hour, pizza party, yacht trip. Or over wine and cheese at an art gallery.

8. I Wanted To Do That…Just Not Alone! ComeWith of Miami

Another great option on the list is the meetup group attached to ComeWith, a newer website that focuses on events and groups.

This meetup is dedicated to bringing people together in a real and authentic way. Making friends can be difficult at times. ComeWith is the best way to cultivate meaningful relationships through shared experiences.

Previous events include paddle boarding, bars, and other fun.

9. Join a League

In the sunshine state, there are so many sports and activities to choose from. If you want to meet a bunch of like minded friends in Miami, why not join a sports league.

A couple that come to mind are:

  • Golf
  • Tennis
  • Volleyball
  • Softball
  • Kickball and more.

Brush up on some of your skills, or start at a beginner level.

10. Attend an Event

Lastly, if you haven’t figured it out already, Miami is like ‘event central.’

Everyone is hosting events. Some are related to partying, art, boating, running, and more.

There are also a ton of festivals that Miami is known for and that happen throughout the year. The easiest example is Art Basal.

Take some time to learn more about the different neighborhoods like:

You’ll begin to see what kinds of events each area holds, and more often than not, these events are an easy way to strike up a conversation with a fellow human.

Meeting humans doesn’t have to be tough.

Most people are somewhat friendly.

Don’t just stay under your covers watching movies you’ve already seen.

Get out, and have an adventure!

Good luck on your quest.
